1801 Born in Whitingham, Vermont.
Parents farmers
1815 Mother died
1817 Left home to live with sister.
Worked as a carpenter and blacksmith in Auburn
1823 Moved to Port Byron, New York. Converted
to Methodism
1824 Married Miriam Angeline Works.
1825 First child Elizabeth born.
1827 Moved to Oswego.
1828 Moved to Mendon, Monroe County
Second daughter, Vilate, is born.
Miriam contracts TB.
1830 Book of Mormon published. Broought to Mendon by Samuel Smith.
Brigham Young reads the Book of Mormon.
1832 Officially joined Mormon
Church. Baptised April 15.
1832 September 8, Wife died.
Visited Joseph Smith in Kirtland, Ohio.
Speaks in tongues during prayer time with Joseph Smith..
Missionary tours to Canada.
Joined Mormon community in Kirtland, Ohio.
1835 Ordained a member of the Quorum
of Twleve Apostles.
1836 Helped construct Kirkland Temple.
1837 Fled Kirtland for Missouri
1838 Missouri covenant. Resources of all members to made available to
help all Mormons fleeing Missouri.
1839 Mormons based in Nauvoo,
Illinois.
1840 Missionary to England
1842 First polygamous marriage.
Polygamously married 54 wives as a Mormon.
Some marriages were not consummated
1844 Joseph Smith murdered.
Brigham takes over leadership of the Mormon Church as President of the
Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
1846 Moved Mormon community to Winter
Quarter, Nebraska
1847 Young ordained President of Mormon Church.
1847 July 24 (Pioneer Day) Mormon Community come to relocate in Salt
Lake Valley.
Brigham Young becomes Governor of Salt Lake City
1847 Founded Mormon Tabernacle Choir
1848 Young forbids Blacks to hold
priesthood.
1850 Founded University of Deseret (Univ. of Utah)
September 1857 Mountain Meadows Massacre.
A group of 120 men, women and
children passing through Utah were massacred by Mormons.
1875 Founded Brigham Young Academy (became BYU)
1877 Died
